ASA Releases Statement After ATF Reclassifies NFA Examiners as Essential Employees
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The American Suppressor Association (ASA) today released a statement of support after The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) reclassified NFA examiners as essential employees amid the government shutdown, allowing application processing to resume on Monday for law-abiding Americans.
“This is a critical step to restoring the Second Amendment, which has been trampled on by the Democrats’ government shutdown,” said Knox Williams, President and Executive Director of ASA. “We are grateful to the Trump administration, including the Department of Justice and Office of Management and Budget, Chairman Jim Jordan, Congressman Ben Cline, and our other allies for listening to our concerns and working quickly to ensure this was corrected. This unnecessary obstacle serves as yet another reminder of why the NFA should not even exist in the first place and why we’re working to dismantle it once and for all.”
“When our Committee found out that the federal employees responsible for processing suppressor applications were furloughed, we immediately worked with the Trump Administration to ensure our Second Amendment rights were preserved, said Chairman Jim Jordan.” We’re thankful the Trump Administration took swift action to correct the situation, and the processing of applications will immediately resume.”
